Thanks to a donation from the Canadian Institute of Mediterranean Studies (CIMS), the Canadian Institute in Greece (CIG) is proud to be able to offer the CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary. The bursary aims to support undergraduate students based at a Canadian university who have reason to travel to Greece. Travel could be for the purpose of participating in an archaeological project, attending a summer program or study abroad experience, or participation in some other academic activity that requires the student to be in Greece. We are particularly interested in supporting students who identify as members of historically underrepresented groups.
2024 CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary
The Canadian Institute in Greece invites applications for the CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary for travel to be held during the spring or summer of 2024.

2023 CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary
The recipient of the 2023 CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary was:
Virginia Marquez-Pacheko who is completing an Honours BA degree in Classical Studies at Bishop’s University. She participated in a Study Abroad course in Greece through Bishop’s University under the direction of Dr. Lana Radloff.
2022 CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary
In 2022 two grants of the CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary were made owing to the fact that for the past two years, CIG was not able to distribute funds for their graduate-student travel bursary. It was decided to supplement the award this year with an additional $1,000 because of the surplus funds CIG had.
The recipients of the 2022 CIMS-CIG Student Travel Bursary were:
Sadaf Rostami from York University. Ms. Rastami was in Greece for a summer abroad course offered by York University (HIST 3357 Greece: A Modern History). She is a Political Science major with particular interests in history and language study (Spanish, French, Italian, Farsi).
Farzana Rohit from York University. Ms. Rohit was in Greece for a summer abroad course offered by York University. She is a third year student pursuing a Human Rights and Equity and Philosophy double major.
The Canadian Institute for Mediterranean Studies and the College of the Humanities announce two awards for students participating in the HUMS 3800 travel abroad course in 2023.The CIMS – Carleton Study Abroad Award for Academic Excellence are merit -based awards meant to serve as incentives to students undertaking research and preparing academic submissions in the area of Mediterranean Studies for the travel abroad course, and to raise awareness of the initiatives supported by CIMS and to encourage students in their studies. The winning student will be recognized with a cash award in the amount of $1000.00 and a runner up will receive an Honorable Mention and an award of $500.00. The award was made possible through the generosity of Former Ambassador Robert W. Peck and his spouse Maria Pantazi Peck, the Canadian Institute for Mediterranean Studies, and The College of the Humanities.
2023 CIMS-Carleton Study Abroad Award
The winner of the 20323 CIMS-Carleton Study Abroad Award was Declan O’Meara ($1000); the runner-up was Bianca McKeown ($500).
Grâce à un don de l’Institut canadien d’études méditerranéennes (ICEM), l’Institut canadien en Grèce (ICG) est fier de pouvoir offrir la Bourse de voyage étudiante ICEM-ICG. La bourse vise à soutenir les étudiants du premier cycle des universités canadiennes qui veulent effectuer un voyage en Grèce. Le voyage pourrait être lié à leur participation à un projet archéologique, ou à un programme d’été, une session d’études à l’étranger, ou encore à toute autre activité académique qui nécessite la présence de l’étudiant en Grèce. Nous sommes particulièrement intéressés à offrir notre appui aux étudiants qui s’identifient comme membres de groupes historiquement sous-représentés.

En 2022, deux subventions de la Bourse de voyage étudiante ICEM-ICG ont été accordées en raison du fait que depuis deux ans, CIG n’a pas été en mesure de distribuer des fonds pour leur bourse de voyage pour étudiants diplômés. Il a été décidé de compléter le prix cette année avec 1 000 $ supplémentaires en raison des fonds excédentaires de CIG.
